How We Work

treatment  waiting

An important part of the initial visit is the consultation. This involves obtaining a clear and complete medical history; a detailed description of your primary and secondary complaints; and information regarding your lifestyle habits and other health problems. This information is initially gathered by filling out the intake forms and then is expanded upon during the interview that follows.

This information is used as the basis for the physical examination. The examination can include the following: posture, gait, trigger point/soft tissue, motion and static palpation of the spine, foot/ankle, craniosacral, and muscle strength testing. Radiological exams (X-ray, MRI, etc.) are recommended only when indicated, and are not routinely used. The examination methods used will vary depending on the nature of your complaints. A clear summary of the findings of the examination will be presented to you.

Treatment during the initial visit will depend on the available time remaining after the history and examination have been completed. Typically, the more acute and severe the condition, the more frequent your visits will be when treatment begins. Visit frequency normally ranges from three times per week at the start for a severe acute condition to once per month for resolving conditions. As you continue to improve the frequency of treatments will decrease. Follow-up and maintenance care (if needed) will be decided on an individual basis once stability has been attained. I do not encourage unnecessary maintenance care that extends over an indeterminate period of time. The whole point of therapy is to teach you how to take care of yourself!

All arrangements for cancelled visits must be made at least 24 hours in advance. There is a $50 fee for missed appointments without adequate notice (which can be waived given extenuating circumstances).
